How
do I know that the agency I have chosen is a member of the ABIA?
Every agency that is a member of the ABIA will carry the ABIA logo within
its literature and should send you a copy of the code of practice when
you join
What happens if I have a complaint against
an agency that is a member?
If you wish the ABIA to contact the agency in question regarding your
complaint, please send full details of the complaint and any relevant
paperwork to:
Alex Stewart
Complaints Officer – ABIA

What happens if I have a complaint and the
agency is not a member of the ABIA?
Every day we receive enquiries from people who have suffered at the hands
of less reputable agencies and, although we are unable to become directly
involved in disputes with non-member agencies, we willingly offer advice
and assistance to help resolve matters to their satisfaction. Refer your
enquiry to:

Why should I join an agency that is a member
of the ABIA?
Join an ABIA registered agency and you can relax in the knowledge that
it has been operating for at least a year, has an office dedicated to
its business (no PO box numbers and accommodation addresses!) and that
its operating procedures have been closely scrutinised by the ABIA. Voluntarily
working to our strict Code of Practice, our members face severe disciplinary
action if they fail to adhere to it at any time.
It is a sad fact that thousands of people lose out, both emotionally and
financially, every year through the closure of fly by night agencies.
In contrast, the ABIA offers protection in the highly unlikely event of
one of its members folding, as its clients would be offered a comparable
service from another suitable agency covering their area at no additional
cost
